the Boosters earned $592.12 from
Escrip for the month of October, and $561.82 for November. An effort
will be made to find out when the spring sports are having their parent
meetings so Rob can be there to distribute Escrip sign-up forms and
encourage participation.
MEMBERSHIP – Debbie Vaticano

perks offered at each level.
CRAB FEED UPDATE – Stan Wilson
reported that Lisa Mansfield has
arranged for the use of a wireless credit card machine at the Crab
Feed. At this time over 300 tickets have been sold.
There were 134
silent auction items last year. So far the committee has 70-75 items
for this year. Raffle donations are needed. Some of the big items
for
the live auction include: A luxury box at a Sacramento Kings game,
Velocity Sports Training package worth approx. $1,000, and orthodontic
treatment with Dr. Chiappone (up to $5,500). It
was noted that this is
the third year that Dr. Chiappone has donated this
service.
TRACK/FIELD UPDATE – There are
ongoing efforts to find a way to get a
new artificial field put it when the District comes to put in the new
track. Mario Balestrieri met with Superintendent McHenry to reiterate
the need for these improvements. Mr. Balestrieri and Carolyn Plath met
with Dick Nichols, Allan Young and Superintendent McHenry to prioritize
the different phases of work on the track/field that are scheduled to
begin this June.
TEAM REPORT –
• Mario Balestrieri reported that there is a wrestling match at De
LaSalle Feb.3, and if we win we will be undefeated and will go against
• The varsity basketball team beat
• We have new softball coaches. Nathan Vaserhely
is the varsity coach,
and Mike Serfus is the JV coach.
• Wayne Wright is the new assistant coach for varsity baseball. Doug
Wayne asked if there had been any follow-up with the retired
baseball coach who had expressed an interest in being involved with the
YV baseball program. Mr. Balestrieri stated that he and Carolyn Plath
had discussed the issue and decided “not to go in that direction.”
• Mikhail Ress-nathans is the JV baseball coach.
• Jordan Willis will be the boy’s volleyball coach. We will only have
a varsity team.
• The District is proposing transportation costs for athletes starting
next year: $100 for the first sport, $75 for the second sport, and $50
for the third sport. There would be a family rate for those families
with more than one athlete.
NEW BUSINESS
REQUESTS FOR FUNDING –
• The varsity softball team is requesting that the
Boosters pay 50% (up
to $500) of the cost for new uniforms. The old uniforms will be given
to the JV team. The Board voted unanimously to approve the request.
• Mario Balestrieri made a request on behalf of the boy’s tennis team
for the Boosters to buy cotton polo-style tennis shirts (approx. cost
$25 per shirt) for each player. The boys would keep the shirts at the
end of the season. They would buy their own shorts. There was some
reluctance on the part of the Board to approve buying uniforms that
would not be able to be returned and used in future seasons. Stan
Wilson offered to talk with Matt Mauss, the tennis
coach, and see if
there was an alternative type of shirt that would be suitable for use
for more than one season, even if the cost were a little more at the
outset. Stan will contact the members of the Board for a vote once he
has more information.
• The volleyball team is requesting that the Boosters pay for new
uniforms (shirts and shorts) from Third Degree Sportswear. The cost is
approximately $50 per uniform, for a total cost of about $800. The
Board proposed that the boys buy their own shorts and keep them, and
that the Boosters would pay for shirts that would be returned at the
end of the season. Mr. Balestrieri will follow-up with the volleyball
coach regarding the Board’s proposal.
NEW BOARD MEMBERS – Stan Wilson will
contact Ellen Martin, the
secretary in the vice-principal’s office, to put a notice in the
newsletter regarding the vacant Treasurer’s position,
The next Athletic Booster meeting is scheduled for March 2nd at 7 p.m.
